Uniform Patrol Division

Shifts

Uniform Patrol, commonly referred to as "road patrol", is on duty 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Four shifts rotate this coverage and include those sheriff’s deputies on the 100, 200, 300 and 400 Shifts. Each shift has K-9 and aviation teams assigned to them, as well as a Watch Commander, who is directly responsible for all field operations in Martin County.

Duties

Deputies assigned to Uniform Patrol are the first responders to all calls for service. These men and women must be ready at all times to handle whatever crisis comes their way. Calls can range from domestic disputes, civil matters or neighbor troubles to homicides.

The Uniform Patrol deputy is the community’s second point of contact behind dispatch. Uniform Patrol deputies make more arrests and investigate more incidents than all of the other divisions combined. Whether the call is an armed robbery or a driving under the influence (DUI) crash, the deputy must be able to discern the facts of an incident instantaneously and determine if those facts meet the elements of a crime.

Jurisdiction

The Uniform Patrol Division is responsible for patrol functions for all of Martin County’s eastern geographical area from the St. Lucie County line to the Palm Beach County line.

Philosophy

The proactive philosophy employed by deputies assigned to Uniform Patrol is instrumental in making Martin County a wonderful, safe place to live and work.
