Major John Cummings, Department of Corrections, is a career law enforcement professional with 33 years of experience. He began his career with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office in 1987 as a Corrections Deputy where he spent two years before transitioning to a Sheriff’s Deputy.  His career has taken him full circle.

Throughout Major Cummings' long-standing career with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, he garnered vast experience serving as Major Crimes Detective, Uniform Road Patrol Sergeant, FBI Task Force Officer, and Special Deputy Marshall for the U.S. Marshals Task Force. In 2013, he was promoted to the rank of Captain of the Criminal Investigations Division where he was in charge of multiple units including the Special Victims Unit, Major Crimes, Warrants, Crime Scene, Evidence, Economic Crimes, and the newly developed Intelligence Unit.  In addition, Major Cummings was also in command of the Agency’s Tactical Surveillance Team.
