Major Ruben Romero began his law enforcement career in 2006 with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office as a Road Patrol Deputy. His proactive approach to patrol quickly earned him an opportunity to join the Special Investigations Division as a narcotics detective, where he was involved in numerous narcotic investigations and undercover operations. He later expanded his experience by working in the Warrants Unit in partnership with the U.S Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

He was subsequently promoted to Sergeant in 2013 of Narcotics within the Special Investigations Division overseeing the Narcotics Unit before transferring to the Training Unit, where he was instrumental in development and mentorship of new deputies. His leadership abilities led to his promotion to Lieutenant in 2016, where he served as a Watch Commander overseeing Road Patrol operations. He later transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division, where he supervised detectives and coordinated complex investigations. During this time, Major Romero also served as a team leader on the SWAT team, demonstrating tactical leadership in high-risk operations and critical incident response.

In 2022, he was promoted to the rank of Captain, first commanding the Criminal Investigations Division and later the Uniform Road Patrol Division. His broad experience across tactical operations, investigations, training, and frontline supervision has prepared him well for his most recent promotion to Major of the Department of Law Enforcement in April 2025.

Major Romero holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in Political Science from Florida Atlantic University. His career reflects a deep commitment to service, leadership, and public safety.
