Captain Gavin Werner began his career with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office in October 2007 as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff. The following year, he transitioned to the position of Law Enforcement Deputy Sheriff.
In 2010, he joined the SWAT Team as a sniper and entry team member and later served as the SWAT Team Commander.
In 2011, Captain Werner transferred to the Special Investigations Division as a Detective, where he worked undercover for several years.
In April 2015, he was promoted to Sergeant and served in the Road Patrol Division until 2016, when he transferred back to the Special Investigations Division (SID) as a Sergeant.
In July 2022, he was promoted to Lieutenant, serving as a Watch Commander in the Road Patrol Division. Later that year, he returned to SID as a Lieutenant.
In June 2024, he was promoted to the rank of Captain, overseeing the Criminal Investigations Division.
Captain Werner holds an associate degree in Criminal Justice from Santa Fe College.
