Major John Cummings was promoted to the rank of Major after spending years in the Criminal Investigations Division as a Captain. Major Cummings is a career law enforcement professional with over 33 years of experience. He began his career with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office in 1987 as a Corrections Deputy where he spent two years before transitioning to a Sheriff’s Deputy.
Throughout Captain Cummings' long-standing career with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, he garnered vast experience serving as a Major Crimes Detective, Uniform Road Patrol Sergeant, FBI Task Force Officer, and Special Deputy Marshall for the U.S. Marshals Task Force. In 2013, he was promoted to the rank of Captain of the Criminal Investigations Division where he oversees multiple units including; the Special Victims Unit, Major Crimes, Warrants, Crime Scene, Evidence, Economic Crimes, and the newly developed Intelligence Unit. Captain Cummings also commands over the Agency’s Tactical Surveillance Team.
