Initial Testing Requirements

Steps

1. Submit a Completed Application

The first step of the application process will be to complete and submit the application. To apply for an open position, please visit our Job Opportunities page.

2. Oral Board

If you are applying for a Certified position, after your application has been reviewed, a representative from Human Resources will contact you to schedule an Oral Board. The board consists of command officers, normally the rank of Lieutenant or above, and may be in the numbers from three to five. You will be asked a series of questions pertaining to various subjects that are job-specific.

If you are applying for a Civilian position, after your application has been reviewed, a representative from Human Resources will contact you to schedule an Oral Interview. The interview consists of Supervisors of that specific unit.  You will be asked a series of questions pertaining various subjects that are job-specific.

3. Interview with Background Investigator

If selected for a position, you will be scheduled for an interview with a Human Resources Background Investigator to review your application. 

4. Fingerprints

You will be fingerprinted at the Martin County Sheriff's Office on the day of your interview.

5. Conditional Offer Letter

If you receive a conditional offer letter, this is acknowledging that the Martin County Sheriff's Office has an open position that you are being considered for provided you successfully complete the remainder of the applicant process and are selected by Sheriff William Snyder. You will not be asked to schedule an appointment for a polygraph or psychological evaluation until you have received a conditional offer letter.

6. Polygraph & Psychological Examinations

After receiving a conditional offer letter, you will be given a date and time for a polygraph and psychological examination. This is free of charge to you.

7. Background Investigation

An extensive background investigation will be conducted including written inquiries to past employers and personal references, also neighborhood interviews.

8. Additional Testing

Non-Certified positions will be required to complete the basic ability and physical agility tests. Human Resources will advise when to complete these requirements. The location and forms will be furnished at no cost to you.
